WASHINGTON, Nov 13, 2008 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Washington Gas is informing the public that the federal government has released $5.1 billion to states for the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program, known as LIHEAP. This is more than double the amount of annual funding previously available to energy customers.
-- The District of Columbia will receive $16.2 million. Last year, the District received $7.3 million in LIHEAP funding. For more information, call the District of Columbia Department of the Environment at 311 or 202-673-6750. You may also visit ddoe.dc.gov and click on Energy Assistance.
-- Maryland will receive $109 million. Last year, Maryland received $36 million in LIHEAP funding. For more information, contact the local Maryland Department of Social Services in your county or visit www.dhr.state.md.us.
-- Virginia will receive $128 million. Last year, Virginia received $44 million in LIHEAP funding. For more information, contact your local Department of Social Services or the Statewide Human Services Information and Referral Line at (800) 230-6977 or visit www.dss.virginia.gov/benefit.
