Washington Gas Parent Company Among the Top 100 Corporate Citizens for Third Consecutive Year in National Survey

WASHINGTON, May 4, 2006 /PRNewswire-FirstCall via COMTEX News Network/ -- WGL Holdings, Inc., (NYSE: WGL), the parent company of Washington Gas and other energy-related subsidiaries, today announced that the company has been named among the "100 Best Corporate Citizens" in the annual survey conducted by Business Ethics magazine. This is the third consecutive year that WGL Holdings -- one of only two utility-related corporations to make this year's list -- has been recognized in the survey for best practices in the area of corporate social responsibility.

"We are very proud to be recognized for our efforts to provide superior value for our customers and shareholders," said James H. DeGraffenreidt, Jr., chairman and chief executive officer of WGL Holdings. "We believe that our employees, customers and shareholders want to be affiliated with a company that cares as much about its place in society as it does about its bottom line. Honors such as this recognize our efforts to be an accountable corporation, committed to serving the communities in which we live and work."

According to Business Ethics magazine, the firms listed in the survey are ranked on performance in eight stakeholder categories: shareholders, community, governance, diversity, employees, environment, human rights and product. In addition to being one of only two utility-related corporations identified in this year's survey, WGL Holdings also is one of four firms from the Washington, D.C., metropolitan region to be named to the 2006 list.

Founded in 1987, Business Ethics magazine focuses on ethics and corporate social responsibility and is published four times a year. Business Ethics is owned by New York City-based New Mountain Media.
