Board of Directors
Douglas I. Bonawitz is Senior Vice President, Chief Financial Officer and Treasurer of WGL Holdings, Inc. and Washington Gas. He was elected to this position in 2019. He is responsible for the administration and supervision of all financial functions including accounting, taxes, risk management and treasury management.
Mr. Bonawitz brings more than 30 years of experience in financial leadership, strategic planning, and investor communications to his role. Mr. Bonawitz joined the Company in 2011 and has risen through the Company’s ranks, taking on progressively senior leadership roles over time. In 2017, he was appointed to the role of Vice President and Treasurer. Before his appointment as Vice President and Treasurer, he served as Associate Vice President for Treasury and Investor Relations for the Company, and he served as Division Head of Investor Relations and Financial Analysis prior to that role.
Before coming to WGL, Mr. Bonawitz served for 15 years with the Whirlpool Corporation in roles of increasing leadership responsibility in the company’s North American Finance operations. He began his career with the Ford Motor Company in Dearborn, Michigan.
He received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics from Michigan State University and his Master of Science degree in Industrial Administration from Carnegie Mellon University. Mr. Bonawitz is also a graduate of the 2018 class of Leadership Greater Washington.
Mr. Bonawitz resides with his wife in Washington, D.C.
Randall L. Crawford, age 58, has served on the Board of Directors since December 2018, and was appointed chair in August 2019. He is also President and Chief Executive Officer of AltaGas, Ltd., the indirect parent company of WGL Holdings, Inc. and Washington Gas Light Company. In his role, Mr. Crawford leads the development and execution of AltaGas’ strategic plan. With a focus on Gas and U.S. Utilities, he is overseeing the reshaping of AltaGas and the optimization of its businesses to drive AltaGas through the next phase of growth and value creation.
Mr. Crawford is a seasoned executive with more than 30 years of experience in the natural gas industry. Prior to joining AltaGas, Mr. Crawford was Senior Vice President and President, Midstream and Commercial with EQT Corporation, a premier U.S. integrated gas company. In his role, he led the company’s ambitious growth strategy in the Marcellus natural gas play. He was also responsible for overseeing all of EQT's commercial, regulatory, operations and project development functions of EQT Marketing, EQT Gathering Inc., Equitrans Interstate Pipeline and Equitable Gas Company. In addition, he held progressively senior roles at EQT’s regulated gas utility, including serving as its President.
While at EQT Midstream Partners, Mr. Crawford implemented a nimble business structure and growth strategy that tripled the size of the company and increased its market cap from $700 million to more than $5 billion in just two years. With his long track record of success and ability to drive top-tier performance, coupled with his experience in the base businesses that form the foundation of AltaGas’ growth strategy, Mr. Crawford is well-positioned to lead the next chapter of growth for AltaGas.
Mr. Crawford previously served as a director for the American Gas Association, the Energy Association of Pennsylvania, the West Virginia Oil and Natural Gas Association and the Interstate Natural Gas Association of America. He’s a director of the Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh Foundation, a member of the University of Pittsburgh Cancer Institute Council, and a past West Virginia Wesleyan College Trustee.
James W. Dyke, Jr., age 73, has served on the Board of Directors since September 2003. Mr. Dyke retired on March 31, 2013 after 20 years as a partner in the Virginia law firm of McGuire Woods LLP, where he specialized in corporate, education, voting rights, government relations and municipal law. On April 8, 2013, he became a Senior Adviser to McGuire Woods Consulting LLC.
In addition to his legal career, Mr. Dyke has extensive professional experience in government and public relations. Among other appointments, he served as Secretary of Education for the Commonwealth of Virginia from 1990 to 1993 and as Domestic Policy Advisor to former Vice President Walter Mondale. Mr. Dyke has assumed leadership positions in several business and community organizations, including serving as former Chairman of the Fairfax County, Virginia Chamber of Commerce, the Northern Virginia Business Roundtable and the Emerging Business Forum. During 2010, Mr. Dyke was also Chair of the Greater Washington Board of Trade and he is a member of the board of directors of the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) and the Commonwealth Transportation Board (CTB).
Mr. Dyke has Bachelor of Arts and Juris Doctor degrees from Howard University. In addition, he holds honorary degrees from St. Paul's College, Virginia State University, the University of Richmond, Randolph-Macon College and Northern Virginia Community College.
Linda R. Gooden, age 67, has served on the Board of Directors since April 2013. Ms. Gooden retired in 2013 as Executive Vice President of Lockheed Martin Corp.'s Information Systems & Global Solutions — a $9 billion business with 30,000 employees that provide integrated information technology solutions, systems and services globally for civil, defense, intelligence and other government customers — after more than 20 years with the company. Ms. Gooden was responsible for establishing and managing the first major contractor cyber center in Maryland. She led the development of cyber solutions for federal defense, intelligence and commercial customers.
Ms. Gooden has been inducted into the prestigious Career Communications Hall of Fame. She was named one of Fortune's 50 Most Powerful Women in Business for three consecutive years and one of the 100 Most Powerful Executives in Corporate America by Black Enterprise magazine in 2009. In 2010, Ms. Gooden was appointed by U.S. President Barack Obama to the National Security Telecommunications Advisory Committee.
Ms. Gooden serves on the board of: the Eisenhower Fellowships Board of Trustees; the Armed Forces Communications and Electronics Association (AFCEA) International; TechAmerica; the University Systems of Maryland Board of Regents and Automatic Data Processing (ADP), Inc.
Ms. Gooden has a Bachelor of Arts in Computer Science from Youngstown State and a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration from the University of Maryland. She also has an Masters in Business Administration from the University of Maryland. She has also earned a Certificate in Cybersecurity Oversight from the CERT Division of the Software Engineering Institute at Carnegie Mellon University.
M. Elise Hyland, age 61, has served on the Board of Directors since August 2019. Ms. Hyland is a natural gas industry executive and leader with over 35 years of operations management, business development and manufacturing technology experience. Ms. Hyland retired from the position of Senior Vice President, EQT Corporation and Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, EQT Midstream Services, LLC in 2018 after 18 years with EQT. While at EQT, Ms. Hyland held progressively senior roles at Equitable Gas Company, EQT’s regulated gas utility and also held progressively senior roles within EQT Midstream Services, LLC, including Executive Vice President of Midstream Operations and Engineering from 2013 to 2017 and President of Commercial Operations from 2010 to 2013. In addition to Washington Gas, Ms. Hyland sits on the boards of directors of Marathon Oil Corporation and Entergy Corporation.
Ms. Hyland obtained her Masters of Business Administration from the Graduate School of Industrial Administration (Tepper School of Business) at Carnegie Mellon University. She also has a Masters in Metallurgical Engineering and Materials Science from the Carnegie Institute of Technology and a Bachelor of Science with a double major in Metallurgical Engineering and Materials Science and Business Administration from the Carnegie Institute of Technology and Graduate School of Industrial Administration.
Donald “Blue” Jenkins, age 47, is AltaGas’ Executive Vice President & President, Utilities and President, Washington Gas. In this role, Mr. Jenkins oversees the development and execution of AltaGas’ strategic plan and advances the strategy of implementing an operational excellence model across its U.S. Utilities.
Mr. Jenkins is a seasoned executive with more than two decades of experience in all facets of the energy industry. With senior leadership roles in commercial strategy, business development, trading, information technology and safety, he brings a comprehensive understanding of the energy value chain across the utilities and midstream sectors. A results-oriented leader with a proven track record of driving transformation and building high-performance organizational cultures, Mr. Jenkins is also a champion of diversity and safety leadership.
Most recently, he served as Chief Commercial Officer at EQT Corporation, a premier U.S. integrated gas company. In this role, he oversaw all aspects of commercial operations, including financial planning and strategic decision-making, commodity sales, operations, logistics, contracting, risk management IT and business development. Prior to EQT, he held multiple executive roles at BP including serving as Senior Vice President, North America Gas and Power, and was a key member of BP’s U.S. leadership team.
While at EQT Corporation, he successfully championed the negotiation of a $3.5 billion joint venture for Mountain Valley Pipeline, assisted with the company’s $7 billion acquisition of Rice Energy and was the driving force behind EQT’s increased bottom line.
He holds a Master of Business Administration degree from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University and a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from Brigham Young University.
Dale S. Rosenthal, age 63, has served on the Board of Directors since October 2014. Ms. Rosenthal retired at the end of 2017 as the Division President of Clark Financial Services Group, where she set strategy for Clark's entry into the alternative energy space, leveraging Clark Construction's core turnkey construction competence into alternative energy development, finance and management. She was Clark's Chief Financial Officer for eight years, leading all the financial functions of Clark, a multi-billion dollar company. She serves on the board of directors of the Strathmore Foundation for the Performing Arts and on the Greater Washington Board of Trade.
She has a Juris Doctor and Masters of Business Administration from Harvard University and a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from Cornell University. She resides in Washington, DC.
Deborah S. Stein, age 59, has served on the Board of Directors since January 2019. Ms. Stein retired from the position of Senior Vice President Finance and Chief Financial Officer of AltaGas Ltd in 2016 where she led the finance function since 2005. She also held the position of Chief Financial Officer and Corporate Secretary of AltaGas Utility Group Inc. from 2005 to 2006. She was also a Trustee of the Calgary Zoological Society and is Past Chair of the Board of Financial Executives International, Canada. In addition to Washington Gas, Ms. Stein sits on the boards of Parkland Fuel Corporation, Trican Well Services Ltd., Aecon Group Inc., and NuVista Energy Ltd, as well as various private boards.
Prior to joining AltaGas, Ms. Stein spent five years at TransCanada Corporation. In her early career, she led finance functions as Director of Finance at Wendy’s Restaurants of Canada and Controller of Paramount Canada’s Wonderland.
Ms. Stein holds a designation from the Institute of Corporate Directors, FCA, FCPA, and Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics (Honors).
